Here at Barker Bulldogs, we fall in love with every single one of our precious pups. Sending them home is a bittersweet moment for us and we understand it is the same for the pup. To make the transition easier we send each one home with a customized puppy pack that includes a food container with their current food brand, blanket, toys, customized handkerchief and much more. All this comes at no additional cost, it is a loving gift from our family to yours!
During the first few weeks it is typical for your pup to crave constant love and attention. They are babies and in a very new environment than what they have adapted to, so they will need reassurance, patience, attention and lots of love.
Bulldogs thrive with consistency and structure. From the moment we get them home we slowly adjust them to an eating schedule and later to a play and potty schedule. They will be in this routine when you get them so be patient while they adjust to your routine.
Diet is a key factor in your pup's health. Maintaining a well-balanced diet that supplements healthy bone, muscle and joint growth is crucial. If you plan on transitioning your puppy to a different brand, please be sure to do it slowly. If a transition is done too quickly it can cause stomach aches, sickness and in extreme cases it may cause their stomach to flip. The proper way to transition your pup from one food brand to another is by slowly and gradually substituting a small amount of the current food with the new food. Slowly increase the ratio over the course of 1-2 weeks until the kibble is completely replaced with the new food.
Please feel welcome to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns, we are here for you and would love to help any way we can!
One of the most adored features of bulldogs are their wrinkles and rolls! With all those wrinkles comes LOTS of cleaning! We highly recommend wiping under their nose rope, face wrinkles and tail fold at least three times a week. This may seem like a lot but if they are not cleaned properly or regularly it can cause infections, skin issues, hair loss and a very smelly dog.
When the cleaning is done regularly and correctly you will notice there will be little to no staining on their face wrinkles or rope! The wiping routine we have implemented for all our dogs include three simple steps:
1) Wipe rolls and wrinkles with a wet wipe
2) Dry rolls and wrinkles with tissue
**This is a very important step, if their wrinkles are not properly dried out it can cause infections
3) Finish with a Wrinkle Balm, Nose Soother, Paw Soother, Skin Soother, etc.
We recommend using Natural Dog Company products! We have noticed these products work very well on all our pups and leaves them smelling fresh and clean after every wiping!
